Barely 23 days after it was commissioned, a section of the newly constructed flyover at the Lameco area of Osogbo, Osun State, has caved in, raising fresh concerns over the structural integrity of the bridge.
The flyover was inaugurated on July 1, 2026, by Governor Ademola Adeleke as part of his administrationโs infrastructure development programme.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday following heavy rainfall in Osogbo, the state capital. The affected section of the bridge developed a noticeable depression, forcing motorists to slow down while others diverted to alternative routes.
A visit to the scene showed visible cracks and a sunken asphalt surface on one lane of the flyover, prompting fears among commuters over the safety of the structure.
Residents and road users called on the Osun State Government to immediately investigate the cause of the failure and carry out urgent repairs to prevent further deterioration and avert possible loss of lives.
Following the development, the affected section of the bridge was cordoned off, while operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to restrict movement and prevent access to the damaged area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
