The 2027 governorship aspiration of Oyo State political figure, Bimbo Adekanmbi, received a major political boost on Saturday as serving members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) publicly declared their support for his ambition.
The endorsement meeting, held at Adekanmbi’s private residence, had in attendance five out of the six APM lawmakers representing Oyo State in the Green Chamber, with the lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Sunday Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), playing a prominent role among the delegation.
The development comes barely days after a strategic meeting involving Governor Seyi Makinde and key political stakeholders reportedly settled for Adekanmbi, a former Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Staff, as the preferred successor ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Political observers believe the endorsement by the federal lawmakers signals a growing consolidation within the APM and further strengthens Adekanmbi’s emergence as a formidable contender in the race to succeed Governor Makinde.
Those present at the meeting include Hon. Dhikirulahi Stanley Olajide (OdidiOmo), representing Ibadan South West/Ibadan North West Federal Constituency; Hon. Abass Adigun Adekunle (Agbowórin), representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency; Hon. Sunday Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency; Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, representing Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central Federal Constituency; and Hon. Shina Abayomi Oyedeji, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency.
Speaking after the meeting, the lawmakers reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the continued political direction and developmental vision championed by Governor Makinde, describing Adekanmbi as a capable hand with the experience and administrative capacity to sustain the progress recorded in the state.
The endorsement is expected to further shape political alignments within Oyo State as consultations and permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
