Oyo LG Chairmen Hail Court Verdict Affirming PDP National Convention, Applaud Seyi Makinde and Party Leadership

The Chairmen of Local Governments in Oyo State have commended the Oyo State High Court for affirming the legitimacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday validated the 2025 PDP national elections, which were conducted on November 15 and 16, 2025. The judgment was delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5, shortly after ruling on an application for joinder.

In a statement jointly issued by their Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the council chairmen described the ruling as a victory for internal democracy and party unity.

They noted that the judgment confirms the legitimacy of the Dr. Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee that emerged from the Ibadan convention, adding that the court’s decision puts to rest all disputes surrounding the conduct of the exercise.

According to the statement, the judgment reaffirmed “the clear fact that the Ibadan convention was conducted properly, transparently, and in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The council chairmen commended Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, the Dr. Taminu Turaki–led National Working Committee, and other key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their steadfast efforts in protecting the party from both internal and external threats.

They noted that the timely interventions of the governors and party leaders have helped rescue the PDP from forces allegedly intent on destabilising it. According to them, this leadership has also checked attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of Bola Tinubu, to dominate the political space and steer the country toward a one-party system.

“The commitment demonstrated by the Governors, Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, alongside other PDP stakeholders, underscores their resolve not to allow opposition parties to be cowed into submission by the APC’s one-party agenda.”

“Their collective mission is to rebuild and re-strategise the PDP, and to present Nigerians with a credible alternative. Democracy is not about the convenience of politicians; it is about upholding the will of the people.” the chairmen stated

The council chairmen urged party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the PDP ahead of future political engagements.
