The Federal Lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN), has facilitated the distribution of over 320 bags of rice to residents of the constituency as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship and promote food security.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, Gombe State. The official flag-off of the distribution took place on Monday at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat, Oyo State.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, commended Hon. Oyekunle for what he described as exemplary and people-oriented representation.

“This is the kind of representation we want and cherish for our people and for the state. We have toiled during the electioneering period, and now is the time for the constituents to reap from the labour. This is a true and excellent representation worthy of emulation by all elected officials at every level of governance,” he said.
Also speaking, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ismaila Ashipa, noted that nothing compares to having a representative who constantly prioritises the welfare of his people. He added that proximity to the corridors of power, especially when one’s party is in government, brings tangible benefits to the grassroots, describing the intervention as a clear example of effective leadership and party synergy.

In his address, the Chairman of the Oyo State Youth Agency, Hon. Prince Falana Adebowale, described Hon. Oyekunle as a youthful, proactive, and efficient leader whose actions are worthy of emulation. He stated that if more lawmakers across the country could replicate such people-focused gestures, governance would have a more positive impact on citizens, particularly the youth.

Representing the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, Gombe State, Dr. Shafiu Adamu said the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring food security for Nigerians. He explained that the partnership reflects ongoing efforts by the government to support vulnerable populations and ensure that agricultural interventions reach those who need them most at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle explained that the beneficiaries of the grains were drawn across party affiliations, religious backgrounds, pensioners, communities, groups, and ethnic lines. He described the intervention as “just the tip of the iceberg,” assuring constituents that more empowerment and welfare programmes would follow in the coming months.

“You sent me there to represent you, and it is my obligation to fulfil my electoral promises. This intervention is a small way to cushion hunger in the land. I appeal to all beneficiaries to make judicious use of these commodities,” the lawmaker said, while cautioning against diversion of the grains for purposes other than those intended.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan North Local Government, Comrade Mustapha, also commended the lawmaker for the initiative, describing it as a reflection of responsive leadership and a strong commitment to party ideals and the welfare of the people.

One of the beneficiaries, a pensioner, Mr. Oksupo Rickets, expressed appreciation to Hon. Oyekunle for keeping faith with his campaign promises and standing firmly with his constituents, particularly pensioners who are often among the most affected by economic challenges.

Hon. Oyekunle, while concluding, expressed gratitude to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency for their continued support. He reaffirmed that his primary responsibility remains ensuring that all benefits and entitlements due to the constituency are fully accessed and delivered to the people.
Present at the event were political office holders, party chieftains of the PDP, appointees, religious bodies, group leaders, community heads and men of the press.
