Just In: Speaker Abbas Swears In Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN) — Sole PDP Winner from August 16 Bye-Elections
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday, administered the oath of office to Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DoN, as the newly elected member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State at the National Assembly chamber, Abuja.
Hon. Oyekunle, emerged victorious in the August 16, 2025 bye-election, making him the only PDP candidate among the five newly elected lawmakers sworn in by the Speaker, with the remaining four from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Adewale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy, who garnered 8,312 votes — a decisive margin that reaffirmed the PDP’s strength in Ibadan North.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the late Hon. Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), who passed away a year ago.
Speaking shortly after his swearing-in, Hon. Oyekunle expressed profound gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, the leadership of the PDP, and the people of Ibadan North for their trust and unwavering support.

“This victory is for the people of Ibadan North who believe in good governance and progressive leadership. I am here to serve diligently, amplify their voices, and complement the visionary agenda of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde,” he said.
He further pledged to prioritize youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and community development, assuring constituents of purposeful and people-centered representation.

With his inauguration, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN) becomes the only PDP member among the five lawmakers elected in the last round of bye-elections, a feat political observers have described as a reflection of Governor Makinde’s enduring popularity and the PDP’s grassroots acceptance across Oyo State.
