The momentum behind Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as Don, received a powerful boost today as prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North formally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging full support for his consensus candidacy in the forthcoming House of Representatives bye-election.
The high-profile defection, led by respected former councilors who served under the administration of Hon. Demola Omotosho in Ibadan North Local Government, marks a turning point in the political landscape ahead of the August 16 poll.
Among those who crossed over to the PDP are:
– Hon. Laide Durodola, former Leader of the Legislative Council
– Hon. Saheed Ademola Ibrahim (Ward 8)
– Hon. Atiku (Ward 6)
– Hon. Fire (Ward 4)
– Rasheed Ganiyu, popularly known as Ladoja …along with their formidable political structures.
While addressing newsmen, the defectors cited internal wrangling, disunity, and a lack of visionary leadership in the APC as the reasons behind their exit. They lauded the PDP for its cohesion and maturity, especially in adopting a consensus approach without triggering internal crisis.
“The PDP has shown they are not only serious but strategically focused. Their ability to agree on a consensus candidate like Don without controversy speaks volumes. He is widely accepted, accessible, and capable of delivering quality representation to the people of Ibadan North,” one of the defectors stated.
In response, PDP stakeholders heartily welcomed the new entrants, describing their move as further validation of the growing popularity and credibility of the party’s candidate.
As more political heavyweights rally behind Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, his consensus candidacy continues to gather steam, positioning the PDP strongly in the lead-up to the highly anticipated bye-election.
