“It’s Hijrah 1447 – may Allah (SWT) make this new year the beginning of new blessings, progress, and peace in our lives and in our communities,” Hon. Sanda stated.

The council boss encouraged Muslims to reflect on the historical migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah—an event that symbolizes sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering faith in divine guidance.

“Our strength lies in our diversity. As we begin this new year, let us all – Muslims and non-Muslims alike – work together to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Egbeda,” he said.

Hon. Sanda concluded his message by praying for a fruitful year filled with divine mercy, progress, and stability for all Muslims. He also reiterated his administration’s dedication to good governance, infrastructural development, and community welfare.

The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijrah, commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) historic migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 AD, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. The year 1447 AH officially began on Thursday, June 27, 2025, following the sighting of the new moon.
