Renowned Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has expressed strong confidence in his ability to win the Oyo State governorship election if he decides to run in 2027.

Support Folajinmi

Hamzat made this known during a recent live radio broadcast, while responding to a caller from outside Nigeria who advised him against venturing into politics. The caller acknowledged Hamzat’s popularity and his philanthropic contributions but warned that such goodwill might not necessarily translate into electoral success.

“People saying ‘Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat’ are not being truthful,” the caller said. “You’ve done well for the masses, but don’t count on them to vote when it matters most. Even in the area where your station is located, politicians with money could sway the vote. You are qualified, no doubt, but don’t expect support from the people.”

In a swift and assertive response, Hamzat dismissed the caller’s warning and reaffirmed his belief in his own political viability.

“Don’t say they won’t vote for me. You might even be the one who ends up encouraging me to contest,” Hamzat said. “I have a mind of my own, and I won’t entertain that kind of advice again. If I choose to run, I will win.”

Challenging the narrative that popularity and goodwill don’t win elections, he added, “Do you know the minds of the voters? You’re using yesterday to judge today. If I contest for governor of Oyo State today, I will win. Don’t compare me to anyone else.”

Hamzat also took a swipe at those offering unsolicited political advice, stating that his decisions would be based on his own convictions, not external influence.

Monumental Legacy

“Stop advising me like that. Whether I take your advice or not, I know what I’m doing. If someone doesn’t take your advice, it doesn’t make them your enemy,” he said.

His comments come amid growing speculation about his political ambitions, especially after campaign posters bearing his image and the slogan “2027: Oyo n pe o” (Oyo is calling you) began appearing in various parts of Ibadan.

Although Hamzat has yet to make a formal declaration, his remarks have further fueled public discussion about his potential entry into the 2027 governorship race.
