Former House of Representatives member Rita Orji, who represented the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019, is under investigation for allegedly using a forged WAEC certificate during her tenure. She was recently arrested at her residence in Abuja after initially refusing to cooperate with police inquiries.
Despite seeking assistance from influential connections, she was unable to avoid the arrest.
The allegations stem from a petition submitted before the 2023 elections, accusing her of presenting a fraudulent certificate.
Orji had previously tried to block the investigation by filing a court case, claiming it violated her rights.
However, an Abuja High Court ruled against her, stating that the police have the constitutional authority to investigate such claims and directed her to comply with their inquiries
Before her arrest, she was reportedly hiding in Akure to evade the arrest but returned to Abuja when she thought the heat had cooled down but unknown to her, the Police was waiting
A judge in FCT recently dismissed her application seeking to stop the Police from investigating her.
The Judge held that she did not show any proof that her rights had been infringed on by the Police….
She is currently being detained at force headquarters…
Details to come…
