Monumental Legacy

Sanda also advised the Corps members to relate very well with their host communities and leave indelible footprints of good memories.

“It’s my great pleasure to stand before you and address this great gathering. The orientation program which started a few weeks ago I believe has been a great experience. As the name denotes, the orientation camp is designed to equip corps members adequately for the task of nation-building and to have a more profound understanding of the scheme. It is also to help toughen and prepare you physically and mentally to meet the challenges ahead, especially in your newfound culture and environment. It is geared towards imbibing in you the spirit of patriotism and also preparing you for the leadership role that you will assume in the future in various sectors.

As you commence another phase in your lives as corp members, I would implore you to take the training seriously, as it is a lifetime opportunity. At the end of the 3 weeks, you will be posted to your various place of primary assignment, the motto of the NYSC remains service and humility.

Let this be your guiding principle all through the duration of the program. I would like to encourage you to be an agent of change and contribute towards the development of your host community. As much as possible, try to make a positive impact in the community, get integrated into the community, and learn the language and culture of the people.

I also wish to remind you that values such as respect, and peaceful coexistence are both upheld and highly valued in Yoruba culture.

“ Imbibe in yourself the virtue of an Omoluabi. Do not engage in unwholesome acts that can tarnish your image. Obey the customs and traditions of your host community and be respectful to elders. In Yoruba land, we are very accommodating, I assure you all, you will enjoy your stay here.

Finally, always remember that your success during the service year starts here in camp. I wish you all a fruitful orientation exercise. Thank you all. Long live NYSC, long live OyoState, and long live the Federal Republic Of Nigeria”.
