Mojisola Meranda has resigned as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, clearing the way for Mudashiru Obasa’s reinstatement.
Meranda, who served for just 43 days, made the announcement on the floor of the House during Monday’s plenary session.

She resigned at exactly 1:20pm Nigerian time
As the first female speaker and the shortest-serving in the assembly’s history, Meranda received commendations from her fellow lawmakers before submitting her resignation.

Meranda, born on 16 August 1980, represents the Apapa I constituency since June 2015, earning a reputation as a dedicated and effective lawmaker.

Her rise to the speakership came on 13 January 2025, following the impeachment of her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, who was ousted over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
